Hunter P

I am an Advanced Placement (AP) Honors/International Baccalaureate (IB) student at Cass Technical High School in Detroit, where I maintain a 4.23 GPA.  My goal is to attend the University of Michigan–Ann Arbor in the fall of 2017 to pursue a degree in business with a focus on finance, as I have always wanted to manage major portfolios on Wall Street.

Outside of school, I am very active in the community, as I am a member of the National Honor Society, where I tutor students one day per week. I am also the president of the Student Chapter of the NAACP at my school.   Additionally, I am the group leader of the Anti-Bullying Club; and I hold memberships with GO-GIRLS (STEM Program at Wayne State University); Nordstrom’s Fashion Ambassadors; New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Youth Chorale; and the Newspaper Club. Moreover, during the summers of 2015 and 2016, I interviewed and was awarded paid corporate internships with the Ilitch Companies and worked as a corporate communication intern (2015) and accounting and finance intern (2016).  I proactively wrote and narrated a video of the Cass Tech-Ilitch Intern Program, which can be viewed here:

Insurance is described as an agreement in which a person makes regular payments to a company and the company promises to pay money if the person is injured or dies. It can also be used to pay money equal to the value of something (such as a house or car) if it is damaged, lost, or stolen.  My parents have always had insurance—life insurance, auto insurance, health insurance, and even homeowner’s insurance.  Therefore, I will more than likely follow the path my parents took and have various forms of insurance when I become an adult.

Because insurance is not a tangible item, I never really think about it.  However, that all changed on January 13, 2016.   It was a cold and blustery day in Detroit as I drove my parent’s car to school that day.  It was the first day I had driven in the snow, but my parents were confident in my driving abilities because they had taught me how to drive in the snow since I was 14.9 years old with a driving permit.   However, this day was not only cold and snowy, but icy too.

I drove safely to school in the morning and texted my mother when I arrived as part of my daily ritual.   However, as I was leaving school, driving down the street headed towards my next destination, a car abruptly pulled out in front of me giving me little time to stop.   I could not move to the left or right because other cars were on each side, so I slammed on my brakes, which caused me to slide hard right into the back of the car.   My brakes and speed were no match for the icy Michigan road.

Before getting out of the car to assess the damage, I immediately called my parents, who met me at the accident sight to see if I was hurt. The only damage was the front of my parent’s car and the rear end of the car I hit.  As the police officer was writing down information for the accident report, I began to cry because I knew my parents were sad about their car, but I also thought about the cost associated with repairing the car.  To my surprise, my parents were only concerned about my well-being.  They hugged me and reassured me that their auto insurance would cover most of the cost of the damage!

Just as they said, my parents only had to pay a $200 deductible for the damage and their auto insurance company paid the balance.  It was at that point that I realized why having insurance is so important.  My parents were able to get their car fixed and back on the road within 10 days!  They also wanted me to have the same driving confidence I had before the accident, so they asked me to drive them home from the repair shop!   I have the best parents, and I am so glad they have taught me about the awesome benefits of having insurance!

Below is a scholarship poem I wrote entitled Select Me”

Select Me

Nearly four years ago, while still in middle school

I entered the doors of “Cass Tech High” just looking for food

Instead, what I found was a homecooked meal

Full of exceptional students, teachers, and knowledge to steal

Today, I find myself yearning for so much more

I’ve been an outstanding Cass Technician

Now show me the university floor

You ask, “What type of student would I be?”

Intelligent, resourceful, and fun, that’s me

My goals for life are envisioned indeed

Knowledge, commitment, and, dedication that’s three

I also imagine innovation and creativity as a future boss

All while developing skills, so my career isn’t lost

A pioneer, I definitely would be

As no one in my family has ever taken the college lead

My awards are many, all coming from administrator at Cass

“Bravo,” “Exceptional Student,” “4.3 GPA”, and my ideas are a blast!

I have prayed for this opportunity every night so I applied

If you examine my report cards the results don’t lie

My mentors, stakeholders, and peers, never frown

Please award me this Enhanced Insurance Scholarship, I won’t let you down

I will do my very best, that’s guaranteed

My main objectives are to attend a top university,

graduate, make my parents proud, and always succeed!

Enhanced Insurance is not written by attorneys. If you’re looking for legal advice, you need to contact a lawyer. Further, insurance practices and forms change constantly and are varied from state to state. For definitive answers in your area, contact a local agent.

While the majority of people want an agent involved in their purchase of insurance, many people want to see if they can save money by buying direct from the insurance company. Others want to try a direct quote to make sure the premium they’re now paying through their local agent is fair. If you want a quote for your coverage, click on the competitive quote button on the right side of this page.
