As someone who has severe depression and anxiety, insurance is something that will always be important to me. In college, I can get counseling, but only ten sessions if I do not have insurance. Ten sessions a year is nothing compared to what weekly counseling could do for me. Only going a few times a year can still cause me to be greatly anxious throughout college. With insurance, I can get both counseling and medication. Medication can help me a lot because when I am anxious about a test or meeting, it stops me from going altogether. With insurance, I can afford these things and I can do well in school. My biggest concern has always been depression. In school, there are many classes that are early in the morning. My depression stops me from sleeping at night and makes me not want to wake up in the morning. For a long time in high school, could afford the medication necessary, but in college it is much more expensive because I can no longer use my parent’s insurance as my own. Insurance for college students is very unrealistic because I must pay for school, books, room and board, as well as other things. Sometimes, my healthcare is the last thing on my mind. But the higher the stress gets, the more I need it and I do not even know. In a way, I am blind to my own necessities because of my anxiety. I push my problems to the side and don’t learn to deal with them because I am not able to see a counselor or get medical help. It is not just mental health issues that I have had that have been effected because of my lack or low coverage on insurance. I also had problems with dental and emergency situations. The biggest problem I’ve had since high school was dental. Even in college it became a problem. The pain from my wisdom teeth was overbearing for a moment of time, but I couldn’t do anything about it because my insurance didn’t cover dental at my university. When I was in high school, my step dad got laid off and we lost the insurance that he had. Because of this, we were unable to afford dental insurance for an operation like pulling wisdom teeth. Now that I am in college, they allow you to use insurance given by the school, but it is much more expensive than the insurance I was getting from my parents was. I have had to wait almost a year to get my wisdom teeth pulled because I had to wait for my biological father to have me on his insurance. Now, we are unsure if I can get them pulled at all. Because of this, insurance would have been a very nice addition to my college life, but because of the circumstances, it was not. Insurance is something that everyone needs, because you never know when something bad is going to happen. Without insurance, people would not be able to afford things like dental bills and x-ray screenings in case of an emergency. Just before we lost insurance, I got in a skiing accident and ended up in the hospital. I had to get x-rays, medicine, and other things in the hospital which are very expensive. Soon after, we were flooded with bills from the hospital, our new insurance only covering a small portion of it. We learned soon after that the reason for this was because our insurance rarely covered the hospital that I ended up in. It would have been much easier if we had insurance that had coverage over that hospital. The reason for this was because it was such a low coverage plan and the hospital I was in was out of our city and in fact, the insurance company hadn’t even heard of the hospital I was in. A lot of the money was paid out of pocket and it was very stressful for my parents after my step dad had just been laid off from his job which was making the majority of our money for the household of five. I know that these things do not just happen to me because I have a lot of friends in college who have the same problems. A lot of people deal with things like this because their insurance is not good and they have terrible coverage. I hope that when I am done with college and get a job, I will be able to have good insurance to help in case of emergency or even just for daily things like medicine or dental. As someone who has severe depression and anxiety, insurance is something that will always be important to me. Enhanced Insurance is not written by attorneys. If you’re looking for legal advice, you need to contact a lawyer. Further, insurance practices and forms change constantly and are varied from state to state. For definitive answers in your area, contact a local agent.

While the majority of people want an agent involved in their purchase of insurance, many people want to see if they can save money by buying direct from the insurance company. Others want to try a direct quote to make sure the premium they’re now paying through their local agent is fair. If you want a quote for your coverage, click on the competitive quote button on the right side of this page.
