You ask why insurance is important me? Well let me tell you. Throughout my entire life I have always been an athletic and crazy child. From when I was eight years old I could remember going camping and climbing 30 plus feet up a tree to then jump off at around 20 ft or so hurting my ankle pretty. Then there’s the time that I was skateboarding and slid 50 feet on my knee and elbow causing bone to be visible throughout them both. The list goes on and on. I guess you could say that I have spent a lot of time in the hospital, and if it was not for my mom’s insurance I believe we would still be in debt. Not only have I been through many injuries, my family has as well. My insurance has helped me and my family get through tough financial times because it saves hundreds of thousands of dollars not having to pay out of pocket. However, it is not because of my own personal injuries that insurance is important to me, it is because of my moms. About a year ago she had gotten in a bad accident and her neck and spine almost hit her spinal cord causing her to be paralyzed. However, through gods hand it was not a severe enough shift to paralyze her. As a matter of fact, she had to wait nearly eight months in order to line up a surgery for her spinal discs. This procedure would have cost over 100,000 dollars if it was not for our insurance. The price tag that was on that surgery almost prevented my mom from being able to get procedure because of the financial struggles that we are always in. That surgery is what made it possible for her to able to move her neck again, and not have constant pain. Through our insurance we only had to pay not even a fifth of the cost saving thousands of dollars and giving my mom the ability to do every day activities without pain. Insurance is very valuable and should never be declined from anyone because of the sheer amount of bills that could stack up. It could save a family already struggling to get by for food or even rent in case something very bad happens to themselves or a family member. For example, a family friend of mine is a radiologist and takes cat scans and MRI’s in order to search for cancer in their bodies. Then one day she began having pain in her kidneys and actually took an MRI of herself to find out she has a rare type of kidney cancer at her age. She ended up going to several meetings and appointments to the best hospital in the world located in Minneapolis Minnesota and saw the best doctors around in order to evaluate her cancer. Through her insurance obtained by her work she basically got all of these highly praised doctors and evaluations for free. Not necessarily free but a much lower price tag compared to others without insurance. She got what the doctors believe to be all of the cancer out of her and is back to her regular day to day schedule. Could you imagine if a lower class person ended up getting very painful kidney cancer and could not afford the cost of all the surgeries and evals? They would most likely die, causing their family to be struck with grief because of the death of a young person from a rare type of cancer. On the other hand, not only is medical insurance very valuable but so auto insurance. Auto insurance, however, is mandatory and there is a reason for that. There are over 5.25 million car accidents that occur each year in the United States. The cost of a single car accident could go up to the millions if bad enough. I do not believe any single person would be able to afford that. However, car insurance helps to get rid of most of that debt and only increase your rates if a small accident occurs. Having car insurance is a legal requirement and with the right level of cover, it provides financial protection in the event of your vehicle being damaged. It will also provide cover for injuries to other drivers, passengers or pedestrians, and their property. As a matter of fact, insurance can also provide financial support if your car is stolen, vandalized or destroyed by fire. Insurance is crucial to many peoples well being because it could save your life and your wallet at the same time. Insurance is important to me because it helps my family due to unexpected car accidents and shocking medical news that without insurance would cause us to lose everything.
