There’s nothing worse that having your travels come to a grinding halt. The open road is for adventure and making memories with your loved ones. The last memory anyone wants of their vacation is your family standing on the side of the road, stranded, and looking for help. That’s why there’s travel assistance.
The National Motor Club is a well-reviewed, A+ rated Better Business Bureau company that offers national roadside assistance. NMC has been in business for over almost 60 years. Now, you have options for ensuring that your travels aren’t ruined by a flat tire or dead battery.
Travel Assistance Plan Options
Each plan offered by NMC has a wide variety of benefits. There are more services available with the more expensive plans, like discounts at certain hotel and car rental companies. This article is specifically geared toward explaining the roadside assistance benefits of each plan available.
It should be noted that roadside assistance is not only provided for passenger vehicles, but also motorcycles, recreational vehicles, and non-commercial light trucks. This extends to anywhere in Canada or the U.S. If you are in Mexico when something goes wrong with your vehicle, then you can submit paperwork and receipts for later reimbursement.
There are five different plans to choose from: Security Basic, Security Protection, Security Plus, Security Premier, and Security Shield.
Under each plan, you will have $100 per disablement. These services covered include:
- Towing to the commercial garage of your choosing
- Bringing gas, diesel, or other fluids (like brake or transmission) to your location
- Jumpstarting a dead battery
- Changing a flat tire
- Unlocking the vehicle’s doors or replacing the key
- Winching the vehicle (if it rolled, is stuck in a ditch, etc.), so long as it is within 100 feet of the roadway
- Delivering and installing parts on site
Each plan has additional roadside assistance in the form of travel assistance reimbursement. If you are 100 miles or more away from our home when your vehicle is involved in a collision, then NMC will reimburse up to $500 in travel fees. This includes meals, commercial transportation costs and hotel or motel stays for the first seven days after the accident. It will also help to pay for 7 days of rental car expenses, so long as the costs are incurred within 30 days of the accident.
Roadside2Go Mobile App
If you own a smart phone, you can download the NMC Roadside2Go app for additional roadside assistance help. The app is free and available on both Apple and Android devices.
It’s very simple to use. You only need to enter your membership number the first time you open the app. Then, if you find yourself in need of roadside assistance, you only need to open the app, select the service you need, and hit “Call for Service.” This will connect you directly to the NMC network of providers in your area.
The cost of a roadside assistance plan varies depending upon the options you select and the number of people on a single plan. Of the five plans available, the least expensive is Security Basic. It only costs $8 per month and $8 for each associate. An associate is an additional person named on the card. That means that if your teenager takes the car out for a spin and has an issue, they can use the membership as well, so long as they are named as an associate. In total, that’s less than $100 per year for an individual Security Basic membership. The most expensive is Security Shield, and will cost $29 per month for each associate on the membership card.
Keep in mind that you can pay for your membership monthly or annually. To make it even more convenient, you can sign up for automatic bill pay. Through this program, your bank will pay for each bill with an electronic check.

Enhanced Insurance is not written by attorneys. If you’re looking for legal advice, you need to contact a lawyer. Further, insurance practices and forms change constantly and are varied from state to state. For definitive answers in your area, contact a local agent.
While the majority of people want an agent involved in their purchase of insurance, many people want to see if they can save money by buying direct from the insurance company. Others want to try a direct quote to make sure the premium they’re now paying through their local agent is fair.
