All dogs are awesome. They’re loyal, friendly, loving, and just want to be your friend. But, what are the top ten most beautiful dog breeds, and why do they need pet insurance?
No matter what breed of dog you own, you probably think your four-legged friend is cute and cuddly. Sometimes, what’s considered beautiful to one dog owner is completely different in the eyes of another owner. Over the years, various pet care companies have attempted to rank the best looking dogs using surveys from dog owners or experts in the field.
Below are the lists from three of those surveys. Each attempted to rank the most beautiful and popular dog breeds in the world.
The first survey was conducted by Eukanuba in 2007 and compiled into the World’s 15 Most Beautiful Dog Breeds. Over 2,200 people completed the online questionnaire. Participants could choose between over 150 of the American Kennel Club (AKC) recognized dog breeds. The results were divided into three categories based on the size of the breed.
In the small breed category, the best-looking dogs were: Yorkshire Terrier, Shetland Sheepdog, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Maltese, and Pomeranian.
In the medium breed category were: Siberian Husky, Border Collie, Australian Shepherd, Samoyed, and Bulldog.
For the large breeds, Golden Retriever, German Shepherd Dog, Labrador Retriever, Alaskan Malamute, and Boxer topped the list.
Business Insider Rankings
In 2011, Business Insider ranked the 11 best dog breeds, many of which can be considered some of the best looking breeds as well. These included: the Portuguese Water Dog, Newfoundland Dog, Maltese, Golden Retriever, Siberian Husky, Poodle, Beagle, German Shepherd Dog, Pembroke Welsh Corgi, and Labrador Retriever.
Number one on their list was the mixed breed. The article noted that mutts are generally less prone to the same genetic problems as mixed breeds. Plus, when you adopt a mixed breed from an animal shelter, it will likely already have many of its vaccination shots, be spayed or neutered, and have a tracking chip. Going to a shelter and buying a dog also helped to control the pet population as well.
The AKC published their own rankings in 2014. Number one on their list was the Labrador Retriever. Others included the German Shepherd Dog, Golden Retriever, Bulldog, Beagle, Yorkshire Terrier, Poodle, Boxer, French Bulldog, and Rottweiler.
So there you have it. Clearly, several breeds are quite popular and top several of these lists, like the Golden Retriever, Labrador Retriever, and German Shepherd. Several breeds on these lists are not only considered beautiful, but also family friendly. No matter whether you are an expert, or just a dog lover, you probably have an opinion on the best looking dog breeds. If you own a dog or are planning to purchase one, the next step is to consider pet insurance.
Insurance for Your Dog
As a dog owner, it is your responsibility to keep them happy and healthy. Sometimes, injuries and illnesses happen without warning. Some breeds are quite large, which can be fun, but also comes with certain problems. Certain dog breeds are more friendly around other dogs than others. You don’t want to have to deal with a lawsuit because of a dog bite. If something does happen, you may have to pay a hefty amount of money out of pocket. Trips to the veterinarian, medications, and tests are not cheap. However, pet insurance can help lessen the burden.
Dog insurance is quite similar to our own health insurance policies in that you have an annual premium and a deductible. Once you reach your deductible, then the insurance will help to cover up to 90 percent of your beautiful dog’s veterinary costs for the rest of the year.
However, pet insurance is a bit different in that it requires you to pay out of pocket for the veterinary services first. Then, you submit a copy of the bill along with your claim to the insurance company and they will reimburse you. If you ask, the veterinarian may let you delay the payment until you have received assistance from the insurance company. This is generally only offered for larger bills though.
Dog insurance covers all sorts of procedures, tests, medications, and visits to the vet. It will even cover dental cleanings to keep even the prettiest dogs teeth looking bright and healthy. With the average pet owner spending over $500 a year on medical-related costs, it may be well worth considering insurance.
Even if you have a generally healthy dog, it is very likely that they will face a severe injury or illness at some point. Generally, these end-of-life decisions can be very stressful and hard on your wallet. If your dog is diagnosed with cancer, you don’t want to have to choose between putting your dog to sleep or paying for operations and medications to treat the disease. Having dog insurance can help alleviate some of these problems.
There are two main policy types: non-lifetime pet insurance and lifetime pet insurance. Non-lifetime coverage is purchased on an annual basis. It provides insurance for one policy year, but does not guarantee renewal. So, if your dog is suffering from a particular condition, you may not be able to purchase coverage again, or receive assistance paying for additional treatments.
Lifetime pet insurance covers your dog for their entire life. So, the coverage will not end if your dog suffers from a particular condition. However, there may be limitations to the amount paid for by the insurance company.
Whether or not you own a dog from one of the beautiful breeds listed above, consider protecting them from the unexpected with pet insurance. It will provide you with worry-free pet ownership for many years to come.
